The glorious history of the Foreign Economic Association "Machinoimport" began on 31 October 1933. In the early stages of its activities Machinoimport was engaged in importing mining, metallurgical, power, transportation and marine equipment.

Since 1948 besides importing Machinoimport has been exporting machinery and technological equipment including lifting and transportation equipment, marine equipment, railway vehicles. In 1955 import and export of oil, mining, pumping and compressor equipment were added to Machinoimport scope of activities pursuant to the decision taken by the management of the Ministry of Foreign Trade.

During the next years as per the above decision Machinoimport participated in the construction of Orenburg-Western boarder transcontinental gas pipeline, Urengoy-Pomary-Ushgorod gas pipeline, developed the giant oil fields (Samotlor, Astrakhan, Tengiz, Karachanak), constructed and operated the Russian coal industry majors: Neryungri coal field in South Yakutia and Kuznetsk coal basin. Many Russian oil refineries use the equipment supplied under Machinoimport contracts.

Machinoimport reconstructed and modernized the sea ports, procured and installed the coal facilities with the total capacity of 5 mln t per annum for the Ports of Vostochny in Nakhodka and Yuzhny in Ilyichevsk, delivered the unique equipment for Astrakhan gas processing plant, the legendary century deal "gas-pipes", etc.

Machinoimport has delivered more than one fourth of the total volume of the machinery and technological equipment for the national economy amounting to about 70 bln US Dollars.

Among Machinoimport traditional partners there are the biggest companies of Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, USA, Finland, France, Switzerland, Japan and other developed countries.

The important direction of Machinoimport foreign economic activities is investment cooperation with foreign countries for implementation of fuel and energy industry projects. Machinoimport jointly with Russian organizations and foreign companies carries out works from exploration of fields up to commission on a turn-key basis of projects for production, storage, transportation and refinery of oil, gas and coal. The cooperation programme with foreign partners also envisages carrying out design and exploration works, supply of equipment and materials, sending specialists, training a customer's personnel.

The geography of Machinoimport activities is vast.
In oil and gas industry it is exploration and development of fields in India, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, Libya, Poland, off shore in Bulgaria, Iran, North Korea; construction of oil and gas pipelines in Algeria, Greece, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Finland, Cuba; construction of oil storage and tank farms in Angola, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Laos, Netherlands.

In coal industry it is construction of coal mines and washeries in Bulgaria, India, Iran, North Korea, Yugoslavia and other countries. Vietnam produces around 80% of coal at the projects constructed under Machinoimport assistance.

Machinoimport successfully solves problems on expansion of cooperation with foreign countries implementing its projects in the international market jointly with the Russian biggest companies and organizations (OAO NK "Lukoil", OAO NGK "Slavneft", OAO "Tatneft" and others), effectively combining their production and financial facilities with its own experience, knowledge of market conditions and long-term business relationships with foreign partners.

Under the technical assistance of Machinoimport more than 200 projects, have been constructed in 28 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The total export turnover has exceeded 7 bln US Dollars.

For the last years Machinoimport significantly diversifies its activities and has implemented in Russia a number of the contracts for construction of the projects of social and economic nature.

Among Machinoimport customers there are Russian federal agencies, the Governments of Moscow and Moscow Region, municipal agencies of big regional centers (Tula, Samara), companies and organizations of Ukraine, Moldova and the other CIS countries.
